Can a 1/2 ton truck be convert to a 1 ton truck?

I have a 1981 GMC 1/2 ton and wont to turn it into a 1 ton having it legal to haul its weight as if it started out as a 1 ton. Also could it be done with the frame it is on or do I have to get a one ton frame? I going to but a dana 80 in the rear and a dana 60 in the front.
