Do they still have song fests in these government court ruled schools?
We would emble at a varying detirmined time, in the auditorium, and the principal himself would lead us in song. Seldom sung songs today; songs that I can't remember the titles, but know some of the words, like Jump down turn around, pick a bale of cotton, boom boom ain't it great to be crazy ( which gave us a sense of what was absurd, and ridiculous, and what was practical and sensible) There were other great catchy songs, like little brown church in the dale, little brown jug, and sailing songs as well. This song fest gave us a sense of being a team, a family, united, instead of divided as it is today on every level. Look down through history and you see how we got by with common songs in our hearts, the war years, the slave years, the Irish and their banty ditties, and c digging songs.
