When there is no scientific proof about after life or god why are people mad after religious practices?

All around the world all religions practice various types of rituals and prayers and pilgrimages.At the end they gain nothing .This has become a lucrative practice for several religions for aming wealth.Should we not put an end to all these types of practices where the gullible are exploited by religions?
